The Dance Art Museum of the Americas will be the first major National Dance Museum of its kind in the west. An obvious choice is the historic, multicultural community of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Known for its artists, museums, art galleries, world famous opera, theaters, and tri-cultural population, Santa Fes art rich community draws people from all over the world. Rated by many international and national tourist organizations as the third most popular tourist location in the United States, and tenth in the world, Santa Fe is fast becoming known as a center of culture.
Entering The Dance Art Museum of the Americas will be a totally new experience for the public. There will be dancers, students, and aspiring dancers working, performing, improvising, choreographing, or just dancing. Plans for designing this museum will include spaces for all these activities. The center of the museum will be an archival room with the stage areas connected for easy access to resources. The archival center will include video, film, photographs, books, and multimedia. Each stage area will be totally equipped for students, dancers, teachers, and aspiring dancers to have a hands-on experience in discovering their contribution to dance, with connecting rooms containing costumes, props, lights, and sound for their use.
Exhibit galleries will show the significant contributions dance has played in history, music, and art. Every part of the museum will showcase wonders for all ages from pre-school to professional. Visitors will be able to select a center, choose music, lights, a costume, and then go to the stage and dance. If they need more information on any given subject, the archival centers will be conveniently connected to the stage areas.
The Dance Art Museum of the Americas mission is to establish and maintain a museum committed to the meaningful involvement of the public in artistic and historical dance arts. This will be accomplished by increasing the publics awareness of dances involvement in the past, present, and future, providing hands-on experimental centers, encouraging motivation for all learning, stimulating creativity, and expanding information through research for careers and self-exploration.
